Democratic Constitutionalist Society

Glenn Beck managed to insult Christians across a wide denominational swath by advising parishioners to run if they hear the phrase "social justice" from their minister or what-have-you.

Meanwhile in Texas, a couple of shit kickers are re-writing history for the whole country.

Virginia (Ginni) Thomas' organization Liberty Central Inc. is shaping up to be a huge player in the Tea-Party movement. Because of it's non-profit status it can raise unlimited amounts of corporate cash and due to recent Supreme Court decisions, spend freely to praise or smear candidates. Every member of the nation's highest court voted against Citizens United's challenge to disclosure rules with the exception of Virginia's husband Clarence.

criminal miscarriage continued

Being that national coverage of this story has triggered a windfall of disdain, Utah appears to be dialing back the medieval slightly by supposedly restricting the bills language so as to apply only to "intentional" acts of miscarriage which would result in a felony under the law.

Something Awful has some further information regarding Utah.

Everyone should also note the name and face of the bill's sponsor. Carl D. Wimmer, ladies and gentlemen.

A real Wimmer! I was going to make some kind of Wimbag joke but it's not even necessary.

nobody's business but the Turks

The president and secretary of state are freaking the fuck out trying to rebuke the house for attempting to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide because it could possibly piss off Turkey enough to deny us access to staging bases for the Iraq war, pull troops from Afghanistan, generally fuck us in the mid-east. I think that even if the resolution gets passed they won't follow through on their threats but I want to go on record as saying I wish they would. It might hurt their economy a little but at least they wouldn't be helping us stage pointlessly amoral and disastrous wars in their own backyard.

also: Barack Obama's reticence to use the word 'genocide' post-inauguration is kind of low on my list of broken campaign pledges but still disturbingly auspicious.

criminal miscarriage!?

So I'm sure most people that read this blog know about this already but I thought I'd put it up just in case. Really pretty speechless... among other things, this bill would leave women who stay with an abusive partner and lose a pregnancy as a result of the abuse vulnerable to a homicide prosecution.

Fuck you, Utah.
